At
New Hope Outreach it is A Different World
The streets tonight are filled
with many different people. Some are very happy and act as if they don't
have a care in the world. Others struggle with their very existence.
They are not homeless people. In fact they come from some very good families
and have good jobs. Some University students and others are parents. But
for the most part they are lonely and are trying to find the love that
they have never found at home, church or the communities that they come
from.
They are people of the downtown core of Toronto, Ontario, namely the Church
and Wellesley Street. In fact they may exist in any area of any major
city in any area of the world.
Some struggle with their identity. Many came to this area because of pain
from various sources, facing homosexual and transgendered desires they looked
for love and acceptance.
New Hope Outreach regularly meets men and women in this core area that need to
see demonstrated the love of Jesus. We attempt to build a relationship with
the people we meet and share the most important message in the world
- that is Jesus loves them and so do we. We tell them that Jesus loves
them just the way they are and wants to care for them in the most intimate
way.
We face problems with our 'message' however. Our 'message' is the same
basic message of the church and probably that of their own families -
at least in the words. That 'message' is the same as most of their people
of their small towns that surround this major city. The problem with the
'message' is what they have heard from those that surrounded them in their
home areas was never backed up by any actions of love. For that reason
they struggle with our message and watch us closely to see if we will
love them no matter what they have done or will do, no matter how they
dress or how they act.
New Hope Outreach carefully prepares itself to demonstrate the real love
that Jesus intended for all Christians to show. The offer hope when their
seems to be no one to care for the individual. We do this because Jesus
loved them so much He died for them too.
